19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.
Both players traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a third set.
Moutet saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
